History
Filipino Independent Baptist Church began in the balcony of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA with two elderly ladies who did not speak English. A man with a burden for them began translating the preaching to them. The small group slowly grew, meeting in open rooms at Tabernacle Baptist Church and holding house-to-house Bible studies in members’ homes. In 1988, through God’s faithfulness, the members purchased land at 5813 Chambers Street, Norfolk, VA where volunteers from other churches, alongside members of FIBC, renovated a small, single story home into a small church building. Filipino Independent Baptist Church was born being led by Pastor Jose Ramirez. God blessed through the years and as the church grew, the church went through several other building phases to get us where we are today. Through every phase, God provided for the church. Today, our congregation is still primarily Filipino, but everyone is welcome. We are a mix of different colors, backgrounds, professions, and ages who all have the same burden – to reach our community and the world with the gospel of Christ!
