Filipino Independent Baptist Church began in the balcony of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA where two elderly Filipino ladies who didn’t speak English.  A man with a burden for them began translating the preaching to them.  The small group slowly grew, meeting in open rooms at Tabernacle Baptist Church and holding house-to-house Bible studies in members’ homes.

Phase I
In 1988, through God’s faithfulness, the members purchased land at 5813 Chambers Street, Norfolk, VA where volunteers from other churches alongside members of FIBC renovated a small, single story home into a small, church building.

Phase II
Again, the church grew and expanded in 1993 to add a new auditorium. The men of the church came together and demolished the two story detached garage and in its place, the new auditorium was built. The original building became classrooms and a fellowship hall where potlucks and other special meetings were held.

Phase III
As time passed, God again blessed the faithful with a third expansion.  The house next door was available for sale and once again, God provided the means to purchase that lot and use it to build on.  Like the first building, the second was converted into classrooms and a nursery as well as providing a front office. Through it all, God continued to provide for the church.

Phase IV
Our multi-purpose building has been completed!  This new building project  converted our original building (Phase I) into more classrooms and provide a larger building for fellowships. We praise God for his goodness!

Our Congregation
Our congregation is a mix of different colors, backgrounds, professions and ages. From Sunday School to choir to Vacation Bible School to Summer Camp, FIBC offers many ways to serve God. Ministries for all ages, children, teens, adults and seniors, teach the truth from the Bible with the intent to build an "approved workman" for Jesus. While FIBC has a burden for the Filipino population of Hampton Roads and around the world, our focus has been on souls, regardless of nationality. We believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of all people and that sacrifice can save all people. We aren’t perfect people and we aren’t a perfect church, but we strive to serve a perfect God. We’ve had our trials and tests, but through it all, God has shown Himself faithful!
